Can you tell us why you chose this career?
Data Science has become a revolutionary technology that everyone seems to talk about. What attracted me to this field is the fact that it is versatile. It is widely used in health-care, banking, consultancy services, and e-commerce industries. Therefore, once you land your first role as a Data Scientist, you will have the opportunity to work in various fields.
What’s a typical day like in your job?
My job entails extracting, cleaning, visualising and interpreting meaning from data, using tools and methods from statistics and machine learning. The most interesting part of my job is to engage with stakeholders to understand a business problem and devise possible solutions.
What are the some of the highlights and challenges of your role?
Highlights – working with a team of experts who are already using multiple programming languages in their daily tasks.
Challenges- Stakeholders are often not familiar with the tools and the working structure of the models. They need to make key business decisions based on what they see from the charts or graphs. The storytelling / communication of the results is always the most challenging part of my job.
How do you keep up to date with all the changes in your profession?
Read, read, read. As a Data Scientist it is important to continue educating yourself to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and developments. I have subscribed to a number of data science newsletters including Analytics Vidhya.
What do you enjoy doing for fun outside of the office?
I enjoy swimming. I honestly believe that my happy hormones are activated every time I am in a swimming pool.
