Can you tell us why you chose this career?
Many industries are moving towards using data to make decisions, improve and optimize efficiencies; from engineering to financial services. Thus, the potential to make a positive difference in current business processes is huge in data related careers, which is ultimately what led me to this career.
What’s a typical day like in your job?
My day at work usually starts with a team meeting, thereafter depending on the day I am either modelling data, testing data models or busy with documentation.
What are the some of the highlights and challenges of your role?
One of the biggest challenges at the start of my career and to some degree now is that I work in an entirely different field as my academic background, so the “technical” talk and jargon can be very overwhelming. Highlights include knowing that the development work that I do contributes to making a difference in current business processes. Furthermore, getting exposure to various software is a huge plus.
How do you keep up to date with all the changes in your profession?
My main source of staying up to date with changes in my field of work is speaking to senior colleagues in my team. Additionally I follow BI and data science topics on Quora.
What do you enjoy doing for fun outside of the office?
I enjoy reading personal development books, dabbling in make-up artistry, baking and enjoying good food.
