What degree did you study at university, Vedanth? 

Bachelor of Business Science (BBuSci): Analytics, at UCT.

Can you tell us why you chose this career?

It involves out of the box thinking and goes beyond the barrier of traditional work. The analytics field is growing and as a result innovation is occurring on a daily basis. This is stimulating and allows for flexibility of solving practical problems.

What’s a typical day like in your job?

A typical day involves brainstorming new value cases for the business, using analytic methods. Then bouncing these ideas with my manager to see what will be best. Additionally, I am involved in the Business Intelligence (BI) workspace, which is fast-paced and requires a lot of solution building, using various data management techniques. In between these tasks, there will be project meetings to discuss progress on specific tasks.

What are the some of the highlights and challenges of your role?

Some of the highlights include solving business problems and creating solutions that drive business value using predictive techniques, as well as being able to innovate solutions using different software platforms.

Some of the challenges include trying to create, identify and use cases that would be beneficial to business and keep the business interested.

How do you keep up to date with all the changes in your profession?

Always reading new articles on R bloggers and Analytics vidhya. Additionally up skilling myself with content from various open learning platforms such as Datacamp.

What do you enjoy doing for fun outside of the office?

I enjoy gardening, swimming and doing lots of DIY.
